John Itati persisted the Kenyan streak in the Dallas White Rock Lake Marathon Sunday morning, winning the full marathon with a time of 2:17:21. The time beat last year’s top time of 2:18:37 despite ruthless rainy weather.

It rained and we had isolated thunderstorms late in the afternoon and it was challenging for participants as well for volunteers, family, and funs. The weather was cold, about 40’s. Kirwa finished second, four seconds off of his 2010 pace. Americans finished in the next five spots, with three locals – Jeff Sadler of Waco, Moninda Marube of Arlington, and Kolin Styles of Weatherford – in the group.

Natalya Sergeyeva won on the women’s side with a 2:35:18 time – a full seven minutes better than last year’s winning pace. Sergeyeva finished eighth overall. Two Kenyans, Hyvon Ngetich and Doreen Kitaka, also beat the least year’s top women’s time.

Cold and rainy weather was a factor as expected, and wind and rain that caused some of the runners to take cover during the race. The half marathon and relays weren’t expected to catch a break either, with temperatures falling throughout the day.
